Digital Copy Denture Workflow

At Optadent Solutions, our Digital Copy Denture technique simplifies the denture replacement process by capturing accurate data and enabling us to directly copy or modify your patient's existing denture(s). This eliminates many traditional steps, such as special trays and bite registrations, while ensuring a perfect, customized result.

Step 1: Take a Wash Impression Inside the Existing Denture

  • What We Need: Take a wash impression inside the patient's existing denture(s). This should be done using the denture as a tray, ensuring it captures the fitting surfaces accurately. â€‹â€‹

  • Tip: Ensure that the impression material flows well around the fitting surfaces to capture all necessary details of the denture's fit.

Step 2: Remove the Denture(s) and Scan the Denture with the Wash Impression Extra-Orally

  • What We Need: After taking the wash impression, remove the denture(s) and scan the denture(s) with the wash impression extra-orally, as a complete set (including both the fitting and occlusal surfaces) as a single data set.

  • Why It’s Important: This step captures a detailed digital model of the denture and wash impression, which allows us to create a highly accurate digital copy of the original denture.

  • Tip: Ensure that the entire denture, including both fitting and occlusal surfaces, is captured in the scan to avoid any gaps in the data.

Step 3: Reinsert the Denture(s) with Wash Impression and Record the Occlusion

  • What We Need: Reinsert the dentures with the wash impression still in place in the patient’s mouth, and scan the occlusion to capture the patient's bite.

  • Tip: Ensure that the patients occlusion is not altered by uneven thickness of impression material.

Step 4: Send the Scan Data to Us

  • What We Need: Submit the scan data (from Step 2 and Step 3) via your scanning system or portal.

 â€‹â€‹

Step 5: Final Denture Creation

What We Do: Using the provided scan data, we will either:

  • Directly replicate the existing denture(s), or

  • Modify the design as requested.

  • What You’ll Get: A new set of Digital Dentures that fits perfectly, with all the necessary adjustments made.

  • Generally speaking, we would go straight to final fit on these cases unless a try-in is specifically requested.

Benefits of the Digital Copy Denture Workflow:

  • No Special Trays or Bite Registrations: Skip traditional steps like special trays and bite registrations, saving valuable chair time, we already have  a special tray impression, an occlusal plane, a midline and an occlusion.

  • Efficiency: Fewer appointments and faster results, improving overall patient experience.

  • Seamless Process: From scan data submission to final denture creation, we ensure a smooth, hassle-free workflow.
